How to play
Work out the hidden alphabet.
In Codeword, every letter of the alphabet is replaced by a number. The same number always stands for the same letter, so once you solve one square, that letter helps unlock the rest of the grid.
Start with the clue letters already filled in, then look for short words, repeated number patterns, common endings and familiar letter combinations. You can check your answers as you go or reveal the solution if you get stuck.
Choose a difficulty
Easy gives you more starter letters, medium is balanced, and hard leaves more for you to deduce.
Fill the number key
Pick a numbered square and enter the letter you think it represents.
Use repeated numbers
If a number appears in several words, solving it once fills every matching square.
Check when ready
Use the check button to mark incorrect guesses without revealing the whole answer.
Puzzle tips
Small clues add up quickly.
- Look for one-letter words, which are usually A or I.
- Common three-letter words such as the, and, you and are can open up the grid.
- Repeated endings like ing, ed, er and tion are useful pattern checks.
- If a guess creates an unlikely word elsewhere, try a different letter.
Fresh puzzles
Play a new grid whenever you like.
Each generated puzzle uses a set of real words and a fresh number-to-letter mapping. There is no account, timer or score pressure, so you can treat it as a quick break or take your time with a harder grid.
